Michael J. Boylan

Michael J. Boylan, age 89 of25 North Beech Street Mt. Carmel and formerly of Locust Gap passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Sunday April 23rd, 2017 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Michael was born on June 3rd, 1927 in Locust Gap to the late Thomas J. Boylan and Mary (Coyle) Boylan.

Michael was employed as a Psychiatric Aide at the Danville State Hospital until his retirement.

He was married on January 15, 1955 in the former St. Joseph’s Church in Locust Gap to Dorothy Helen (Sebastian) Boylan who survives.

Michael attended Mt. Carmel Township Schools and in 2014 became an honorary graduate of Mt. Carmel Area High School.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, formerly St. Joseph’s Church in Locust Gap, the Mt. Carmel Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2110, a life member of the Locust Gap Fire Company and was also a member of the Natalie Fire Company.

Michael served as an Technical Sergeant with the U.S. Army’s 634th Armored Infantry Battalion during the Korean War. He received the Korean service medal with 4-bronze service stars, the purple heart and the combat infantry badge.

Mickey was a proud Irishman who put God and family above all else. His strength was beyond measure. “Sarge” had a great sense of humor. The saying “when Irish eyes are smiling” they are up to something was so true. His greatest pleasure was attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting and school events.

In addition to his wife, he survived by a son Patrick Boylan and his wife Kathleen of Mt. Carmel, two daughters Suzanne Betz and her husband Peter of Strong, Michelle Pitcavage and her husband Michael of Natalie; six grandchildren, Michael Boylan and his wife Liz, Christine (Betz) Lokitis and her husband BJ, Peter Betz, Jr. and his companion Tara Owens, Daniel Betz, Michael Pitcavage, Jr. and his fiancé Lindsey Gilotti and Marcus Pitcavage; four great grandchildren Michael Patrick and Nikolas Boylan, Colin and Hannah Lokitis; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister Sarah Boylan and a brother James Boylan.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday April 28th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with the Rev. Francis J. Karwacki officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beaverdale. A viewing will be held on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home 40 South Market Street Mt. Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz, III Supervisor.
