Antonio “Tony” Andrade, 92, passed away at his home in Mount Carmel on September 12, 2021 shortly after a diagnosis of cancer.

Born in Centralia on July 7, 1929, he was a son of the late Manuel and Emily Andrade.

Tony was a 1947 graduate of the former Conyngham Township High School. He played soccer and basketball in addition to excelling in baseball. He was sports editor of the 1947 IRIS yearbook.

On June 14, 1952, he married Mary Worhach in the former Saint Ignatius Church, Centralia.

Tony had a strong faith in God. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Mount Carmel, and its Holy Name Society. He was a former member of Saint Ignatius Church, Centralia. He filled in for one of the wise men in the 1987 Nativity Scene.

Tony worked for the PA Liquor Control Board in Columbia and Schuylkill Counties, starting as a Clerk in Bloomsburg, and concluding 23 years of service as Manager of the store in Ashland.

Tony had a passion for baseball, both playing and coaching. He was a regional standout in the 1950s and 1960s, playing hardball for teams that included Excelsior, Montgomery, Trevorton, and Danville State Hospital. He won the batting title in the Shamokin City League in 1953, playing third base for Excelsior. On July 17, 1963, playing for Danville State Hospital, he pitched the first no-hitter in the Upper West Branch League.

Tony loved his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary Andrade; infant twins, Edward and Marguerite; sister, Betty Goldberg; and son-in-law, Peter Stello. Surviving are his children, Antonio Andrade of Duncannon, Diane Andrade of Elysburg, John Andrade and his wife Betty Lou of Etters; his sister, Mary Scarpello, and her husband Thomas of Glenside; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
