Cheryl Ann Dormer

Cheryl Ann Dormer, 63 of 207 Main Street, Locust Gap passed away on Saturday morning, March 11, 2023 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.


Born in Shamokin on January 19, 1960, she was a daughter of the late James J. Sr. and Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (Smith) Cavanaugh.


Cheryl was a graduate Our Lady of Lourdes High School.


She was employed at the former K-Mart in Shamokin until its closing and then for many years in housekeeping at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.


Cheryl was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a great friend to many. She had a genuine love and concern for all those she knew.


She was married to Gaylord Willier and raised two children, Matthew and Dana. After that marriage ended, she married David Dormer on August 17, 2002. They resided in Locust Gap and had an extremely loving relationship. Cheryl and David enjoyed traveling, fishing, sightseeing and visiting the grandchildren. At home, she liked to knit, play with her grandchildren and play cards with David…and she always won.


Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were two brothers, James J. “Jim” Cavanaugh, Jr. and Joseph J. Cavanaugh.


Surviving in addition to her husband, David Dormer are her son, Matthew Willier at home; her daughter, Dana Breining and her husband Tom in Georgia; grandchildren, Alayna and Landon Breining, and Chayse and Julieann Willier; Jenn Willier of Shamokin once married to Matthew, but always a daughter to Cheryl; three brothers, Thomas Cavanaugh and his wife Mary, Francis Cavanaugh and his wife Marilyn and Dennis Cavanaugh and his wife Patrice; one sister, Linda Klinger and her husband David; and nieces and nephews; sister in laws Sue Cavanaugh and Janice Cavanaugh. 


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Church of Our Lady, Mount Carmel with the Very Rev. Francis J. Karwacki, Pastor as the celebrant. Interment will follow in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, Locust Gap. A viewing will be held at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market Street, Mount Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz III, Supervisor on Thursday evening from 6:00 pm until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 47 South Market Street, Mount Carmel, PA 17851.
