Obituary for John Joseph Stelma
MOUNT CARMEL – John J. Stelma, 71, of 118 North Hickory Street, Mount Carmel passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at his residence.
He was born at the former Ashland State General Hospital, Fountain Springs, a son of Anna (Czeslowski) Stelma Zelinski, of Mount Carmel, who survives, and the late John Stelma. His stepfather, Enoch Zelinski Sr., who raised him after his father's passing, also preceded him in death.
He attended Mount Carmel Area High School.
John was a decorated Army veteran having served his country in Vietnam from 1968 until 1971 with the 229th Assault Helicopter Battalion 1st Cavalry Division. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.
He was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, Anna Zelinski of Mount Carmel are his sister, Bernice A. Hamulla of Mount Carmel; two brothers, Frank Stelma, of Mount Carmel and Enoch A. Zelinski Jr. of Mount Carmel; and aunts, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father and stepfather, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Stelma; and three brothers, Steve Stelma, Mike Stelma and Raymond E. Stelma.
