Obituary for Joseph John Bodnar, Jr.
Joseph John Bodnar, Jr., 78 of 10 Church St., Ambler passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 in his home.
Born in Coal Township on November 18, 1939 he was a son of the late Joseph J. Bodnar, Sr. and the late Stella (Dedovich) Bodnar.
He was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School and RCA Technical Institute.
Mr. Bodnar was a decorated US Air Force Veteran.
Joe was a machine operator at SPS Technologies and was also a TV technician.
On September 5, 1964 in the Ashland Presbyterian Church he married the former Carolyn Dee Burge who survives.
He was of the Catholic faith and was a former member of SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Mt. Carmel. Joe enjoyed fishing, traveling, but most of all spending time with his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Dee Bodnar are one son, Joe Bodnar and his wife Karen of North Wales; two daughters, Jill Bodnar-Matonis and her husband Vydas of Silverdale and Tara Bodnar-Nika and her husband Peter of Ambler; three grandchildren, Corey Bodnar of Knoxville, TN, Connor Bodnar of Philadelphia and Kayla Nika of Ambler; one brother, Daniel Bodnar and his wife Loretta of Pen Argyl; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Burge of Den-Mar Gardens, Kulpmont; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, George Burge.
Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 11:00 am in SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Mt. Carmel with the Very Rev. Archpriest Michael Hutsko officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Christ Church Cemetery, Fountain Springs, Ashland. A viewing will be held on Monday morning from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 S. Market St., Mt. Carmel with a Panachyda Service held at 10:00 am in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to charity of one’s choice.
