Kulpmont-Leo J. Laurnaitis, 91 of Kulpmont, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2016, at Mountain View Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Coal Township. He was born July 6, 1924, a son of the late John A. and Beatrice (Wknalis) Laurnaitis. He was a decorated World War II U.S. Navy veteran and enjoyed the time he spent in San Diego, California, when he was stationed there. He was married April 15, 1950, in the former St. Anthony Church, Ranshaw, to the former Irene G. "Rinky" Wachowski who preceded him in death on December 3, 2014. Leo was a mechanic who retired from Cummins Diesel in Ashland. He was a member of Holy Angels Church, Jan Sobieski Society and Social Club, American Legion Post 231, VFW and East End Fire Company, all of Kulpmont. He also was a member of the Shamokin Moose Lodge 1149. Leon Treasured his late wife, "Rinky", and especially enjoyed dancing with her. He also was and avid bowler who won many trophies during his bowling career. Survivors include nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers. LAURNAITIS-Leo J. Laurnaitis, 91 of Kulpmont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Angels Church, Kulpmont, with the Rev. Andrew Stahmer, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery Mt. Carmel Township. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. Tuesday until the time of Mass at the church. Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home 40 South Market Street Mt. Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz, III Supervisor is in charge of arrangements.
