Mary Chapman

Mary (McGinley) Chapman Lawler, 82, of 313 Virginia Lane, Kulpmont passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022 at Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital following a brief illness.


Born in Centralia on May 5, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Margaret (Reagan-Deane) and Patrick McGinley.


Mary retired from the Pennsylvania State Police as a police communication’s operator after 20 years of service.


Many years ago, Mary actively participated in the relocation efforts for Centralia residents impacted by the Centralia mine fire, and was an auxiliary officer for the Centralia Legion, Post 608.


Preceding her in death in addition to her parents, was her first husband Edward “Sledge” Chapman; and three brothers, Daniel McGinley, Michael Deane and James Deane.


Survivors include her husband of four years, John Lawler; three daughters, Marybeth Chapman and husband Kevin Viola of Huntersville, North Carolina, Kathleen Chapman and husband Stephen Douthat of Nescopeck and Patricia Chapman of Harrisburg; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Kranzel and Maura Boegel both of New York City; step-children, Deb Vogel of Glen Mills and Jack Lawler of Lincolnton, North Carolina; nieces, nephews and cousins.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Church in Kulpmont with the Rev. Andrew J. Stahmer, Pastor as the celebrant. Interment will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. A visitation will be held on Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Holy Angels Church. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy can be made to Holy Angels Church, 855 Scott St., Kulpmont, PA 17834. Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market St., Mt. Carmel, Joseph J.
