Obituary for Mary P. Burke
Mary P. Burke, 92, a resident of Maria Joseph Manor in Danville, PA passed away Monday, February 5, 2018 at the Mt. Carmel Senior Living Community.

Born in Centralia on October 14, 1925 she was a daughter of the late Vincent and Martha (Collier) Purcell.

Mary was a graduate of the former St. Joseph’s High School in Ashland, St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Elizabeth, New Jersey and she also attended St. Peter’s College in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Mary was a retired Registered Nurse. She had worked in New Jersey and the Emergency Hospital in Washington D.C. During World War II she was a member of the Cadet Nursing Corps.

Mary was married on December 31, 1969 in New York City to John J. Burke who preceded her in death on June 12, 2009.

Mary was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish.

She is survived by two sisters, Regina Purcell of Washington, D.C. and Dorothy Romansky of Ashburn, Virginia; one step son, John Burke and his wife Janet of Whitinsville, Massachusetts; one step daughter, Dr. Patricia Burke of Providence, Rhode Island; three grandchildren David Burke, Alison Roposa and Megan Hudzikiewicz, one great grandchild Colin Hudzikiewicz, her cousin John Collier and Ann Swank who were Mary’s caregivers; nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with the Rev. Francis J. Karwacki, Pastor as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery in Centralia. A viewing will be held on Friday morning from 9:00 am until 10:45 a.m. at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home 40 South Market Street Mt. Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz, III Supervisor. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy can be made to the National Audubon Society 225 Varick St, 7th Fl. New York, NY 10014
