Obituary for Richard Alan Mowery
Richard A. Mowery of Elysburg lost his battle with brain cancer peacefully within the comfort of his home with family by his side on Thursday, September 20, 2018.
Richard was born in Sunbury Hospital on July 8, 1964 to David Mowery of Catawissa and the late Laura Mowery.
He attended Line Mountain School District and Northumberland Vo-Tech where he studied carpentry.
For 36 years he had been employed by Knoebel’s Lumber.
On July 29, 2006 he married the former Fay Agnes “Aggie” Ahrensfield in the town park in Mt. Carmel.
In his spare time, Richard’s hobbies included spending time outdoors, Elk hunting in Colorado and hunting trips to Canada.
In addition to his father David Mowery of Catawissa and his wife Fay “Aggie” Mowery, he is survived by two sisters, Cheryl Rothermel of Catawissa and Darlene Thomas and her husband Clair of West Cameron; three stepchildren, Amanda Vetovich and her husband Jim of Mount Carmel, Daniel Snyder of Locust Dale and Matthew Snyder and his wife Morgan of Kulpmont; seven step-grandchildren, Alijah Hollenbach, Zachary Snyder, Khloe Snyder, Daniel Snyder, Raelyn Snyder, Brantley Vetovich and Lillian Snyder; one niece, Erica Collins, and two nephews, Sean and Adam Thomas.
In addition to his mother, Laura Mowery in 1991, he was preceded in death his stepson, Robert Snyder.
Religious services will be held on Monday evening, September 24, 2018 at 8:00 pm in the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc., Funeral Home, 40 S. Market St., Mt. Carmel. Rev. Mike Palachick will officiate. A viewing will be held on Monday in the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Interment will be held on Friday morning, September 28, 2018 at 10:00 am in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Mt. Carmel Township.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
