Obituary for Robert E. O'Neill, Jr.
Robert E. O’Neill, Jr. 66, of 56 Church Street Locust Gap, passed away on Saturday December 9, 2017 at the home of his son in Lavelle.
Born on December 6, 1951, he was the son of the late Robert E. O’Neill Sr. and Helen (Shepley) O’Neill.
Robert was a 1969 graduate of Mt. Carmel High School.
He served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1970 to 1976 with Company B, Third Battalion, 109th Infantry. He received several marksmanship badges including the Expert Rifle M-16. He also received the General Thomas J. Steward Medal, the PA service ribbon for duty performed during the Hurricane Agnes flood and the Silver Star PA service ribbon.
Robert loved to hunt, fish and just enjoyed any time spent in the outdoors.
He is survived by two daughters, Melissa Jones of Danville and Jennifer Bowman and her husband David of Elysburg, two sons, Robert E. O’Neill, III and his wife Ginny of Locust Gap, and Shawn O’Neill and his wife Peggy of Lavelle; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pat Toucheloskie and her husband Mike of Coal Township and Barbara Glowatski and her husband Joe of Danville; several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with the Rev. Francis J. Karwacki as the celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Locust Gap. A viewing will be held on Thursday morning from 9:00 am until 10:45 am at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market Street Mt. Carmel.
