Robert L. "Bates" Mummaw

Robert L. “Bates” Mummaw, 72 of 112 Colonial Avenue, Mt. Carmel, passed away suddenly on Thursday January 17th, 2019 at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

Born at Geisinger Hospital, Danville on November 28th, 1946, he was a son of the late Robert and Marian (Sheriak) Mummaw.

He was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School.

On May 13, 1975 in Shamokin he married the former Rose Marie Krajnak who survives.

Prior to his retirement, Bates worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

For over twenty years, Bates owned and operated Wildlife Land in Natalie.

He was a member of the Atlas American Legion Post No. 804, the Natalie Fire Company and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 464.

Bates was an avid animal lover; enjoyed cooking, operating heavy equipment especially his backhoe and hunting and fishing.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 43 years, Rose Marie Mummaw are one son, Justin Mummaw of Natalie; one brother, Thomas Mummaw of Kulpmont; two sisters, Jacqueline McWilliams of Kulpmont and Doris Dunn of Maryland; and nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were two brothers, Aaron and William Mummaw and one sister, Lucille Mummaw.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am in the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 S. Market St., Mt. Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz, III Supervisor. Religious services will then follow on Thursday morning at 11:00 am in the funeral home. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 pm at the Atlas American Legion Post 804. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
