Saverio Feudale

March 17, 1952 — January 28, 2018

Saverio “Sam” Feudale, 65, of Elysburg, passed away unexpectedly Saturday night, January 27th, 2018.

Sam was born in the coal region on March 17th, 1952, to the late Antonio and Josephine Feudale. Sam grew up as a first generation American to Italian immigrant parents. That upbringing shaped his character and defined the values of family, community, church, and personal responsibility which imbued his life with meaning.

He graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School, obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Dayton, and a Master’s in Social Work and a Master’s in Law and Social Policy from Bryn Mawr College. He worked for over 30 years as a social worker and Chief Social and Rehabilitation Executive at Danville State Hospital. During his tenure, he strove to always help those in his care to the fullest extent he could and was not afraid to go the extra mile to care for someone in need.

He met his wife Shirley at Danville State Hospital and the two were married on September 30th, 1989. They had their first son, Anthony, in 1991 and their second, Adam, in 1995. Sam was a loving father and was intensely supportive of his sons. He was ever present in their lives and through his example taught them the values of perseverance, responsibility, generosity, openness and love of family.

Sam was a consummate conversationalist, able to make friends anywhere he would go. Generous to a fault, Sam would go out of his way to help a friend in need. He never stopped looking for ways to give back to his community, either through his work, enlisting as a Knight of Columbus, or volunteering with the Ronald McDonald house. Laughter was his constant companion and his family and friends will miss his easy sense of humor. There was very little in this world he enjoyed more that spending time with friends and family, either joking or arguing about politics or sports.

He is survived by his beloved wife Shirley, his loving sister Rose, his two sons, dozens of close relatives in both America and Italy and many dear friends. We will all miss him much more than can be expressed in a medium as destitute as language.
