Thomas Kondisko

July 18, 1947 — February 25, 2022

Thomas Kondisko 74 of Mount Carmel passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022, after a brief bout with cancer.
Born in Brockway, PA, On July 18, 1947 but raised in Mahanoy City, Tom was the son of the late Russell and Jean (Mulvihill) Kondisko.

He was a 1965 graduate of Mahanoy Area High School. Upon graduation, Tom worked briefly for Union Carbide in New Jersey. He then moved to Mount Carmel where, for 45 years, he owned and operated K’s Cleaners with his brother John (Clem) Kondisko.

Tom was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church. He was a member of the Shamokin Moose Lodge No. 1149, where he served as administrator for 11 years. He and his wife Pauline organized countless fundraisers and parties throughout their years at the Moose. He was an active member of the Mount Carmel Lions Club, where he served as president from 1980 until 1981. He used his love of cooking to prepare food for the Lions Club holiday Meals on Wheels program, as well as many Lions fundraising events. Tom was a third-degree brother knight of the Mount Carmel Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of various other organizations including the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge No. 436, the Lithuanian Social Club of Mount Carmel, the Mount Carmel Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 464, and the St. Francis Home Association of Shamokin. On Fridays during Lent, Tom could be found at one of these clubs making his famous bleenies as his own fundraiser to benefit the organization.

Tom’s love of sports included billiards and golf, but bowling was his passion. Tom bowled 14 perfect games of 300 in his career, nine of which were sanctioned by the American Bowling Congress. Tom also won the Elks State Championship in 1991 and two Moose State Titles in 1994 and 2005. He also won multiple state tournaments including singles, doubles, team, and all-events.

These achievements earned him a place in the Ed Romance Lower Anthracite Chapter of the PA Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. Throughout this bowling career, Tom earned numerous trophies. Last year, he donated those trophies to Kamp for Kids and the Shamokin Moose, who held a free bowling event for children and adults with autism. Tom felt that every participant deserved a trophy.

With his mischievous smile, Tom was friendly and witty with a bit of sarcasm and a heart of gold. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Pauline (Whitecavage) Kondisko, his brother, John “Clem” Kondisko, and his sister- in-law, Marie (Demko) Kondisko.

Tom is survived by two sisters, Kathleen Pickel and her husband Nate and Lynn Hanrahan and her husband Marty, and his “best buddy” Margaret Kleinschmidt. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
