Christine M. Jevelle

June 3, 1937 — December 24, 2020

Christine M. Jevelle, 83 of Kulpmont passed away unexpectedly at home on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2020.

Chris, also known as “Tina”, was born on June 3, 1937 in Shenandoah to parents Samuel and Theophilia (Arminavage) Cikot.

Tina had a beautiful singing voice and as a child, she recorded a record and was invited to appear on the Paul Whiteman Show in New York City. Sadly, her family could not afford the trip.

Her love for music never wavered. She enjoyed musicals and looked forward to going to see Johnny Mathis and the Jersey Boys with her daughters each year.

Tina was a 1955 graduate of her beloved J.W. Cooper High School in Shenandoah where she was known as a “sweet gal with a beautiful voice”. She spoke fondly of her memories of being a teenager in the “50s”. Always a rebel, she would sometimes skip school and spend the day at the movie theater. Tina graduated from the Ashland School of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse and started her early nursing career in Massachusetts.

On February 6, 1960, Tina married Robert W. Jevelle in the former Saint George’s Church in Shenandoah. Their union lasted sixty years.

They went on to have three children and Chris was fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom.
She was the most dedicated and wonderful mother, always making sure her children felt special, loved and safe. She enjoyed shopping, going to Knoebels and playing games with her kids. She was a very kind and generous person with a fun sense of humor and a very big heart. She instilled in her family the importance of giving to others and led by example.

Chris was deeply compassionate about hungry, sick and underprivileged babies and children around the world. She made donations to several charities each month, mainly St. Jude’s and Feed the Children.

She reveled in decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas, making her home look like a Norman Rockwell painting. Her favorite decorations were anything with ice skates and carolers, she had the most beautiful tree adorned with skate ornaments.
Chris eventually returned to the workforce in 1976, working the night shift at Mountain View Manor. She retired in 1996 after twenty years.

A year after her retirement, her only grandson, Nicklaus was born. Nothing gave her greater joy than being his “Mom Mom”. Those two were as thick as thieves and always getting into shenanigans together. “Mom Mom” could often be found cheering loudly for Nicklaus during hockey season, never missing a game, far or near.

Chris was a member of Holy Angels Church in Kulpmont. She was a devout Catholic whose faith was extremely important to her. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 23: The LORD is my shepherd.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Leonard at home; her daughter Lisa wife of Bill Angelo of Kulpmont; her daughter, Jennifer of Kulpmont; and her beloved grandson Nicklaus whom she helped raise of Kulpmont.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers William and John Cikot and her sister Lillian Bartholomew.

The Lord is my shepherd: I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
