Donald I. Britton

November 12, 1945 — September 26, 2023

Donald I. Britton, 77, of 451 East Seventh Street, Mt. Camel passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.


Born at the former Shamokin State Hospital on November 12, 1945, he was the son of the late Robert and Eva (Noll) Britton.

He attended Coal Township School.


Donald served in the United State Army during the Vietnam War from 1965 until 1967. He received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Purple Heart.


Following his service in Vietnam he was employed at Catawissa Lumber and retired from Lowes.


On April 25, 1970 at the Assembly of God Church in Shamokin he married Rose M. (Swaldi) Britton who survives.


He was a life member of the Clover Hose Fire Company in Mt. Carmel and a member of the Valley Gun and Country Club in Elysburg.


In addition to his wife, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter,  four brothers and five sisters.


Religious services will be held on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market Street, Mt. Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz, III Supervisor. Rev. Rose Marquardt will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at Northumberland Memorial Park. A viewing will be held on Monday morning from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at the funeral home.
