Obituary

Dorothy Helen (Sebastian) Boylan, 93, formerly of Mt. Carmel and Locust Gap passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.

Born in Mount Carmel on November 24, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Helen Marie (Gorman) Sebastian.

On January 15, 1955 in the former St. Joseph’s Church in Locust Gap, she married Michael J. Boylan who preceded her in death on April 23, 2017.

She was a 1955 graduate of the former Catholic High School, Mount Carmel.

Earlier in life, Dorothy worked as a typist for the Bell Telephone Company. Yet, of all the roles she embraced throughout her life, none was more important to her than being a devoted homemaker and caring for her family.

Dotsy was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and the former St. Joseph’s Church in Locust Gap.

Family was the center of her world and the greatest source of her joy. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who treasured every moment spent with the people she loved most. Her family was her pride and joy, and she cherished the memories they made together, both in the simplest everyday moments and in the special occasions they shared.

She was especially proud to be “Mam Mam” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved listening to their stories, laughing at their antics, and watching them grow. They brought a special happiness to her heart, and she treasured each of them dearly. The love she gave so freely will live on in the hearts of her family and in the countless memories they will carry with them forever.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents and her husband were her son-in-law, Peter Betz; two brothers, Thomas Sebastian and his wife Theresa and Francis Sebastian.

Surviving are her son, Patrick Boylan and his wife Kathleen of Mt. Carmel; two daughters, Suzanne Betz of Strong and Michelle Pitcavage and her husband Michael of Natalie; six grandchildren, Michael Boylan and his wife Liz, Christine (Betz) Lokitis and her husband BJ, Peter Betz, Jr. and his wife Tara, Daniel Betz and his wife Katelynn, Michael Pitcavage, Jr. and his wife Lindsey and Marcus Pitcavage; seven great-grandchildren, Michael Patrick and Nikolas Boylan, Colin and Hannah Lokitis, Harper and Gavin Pitcavage and Peter John “PJ” Betz; a sister-in-law, Ann Sebastian of Mechanicsburg; and nieces and nephews with their families.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 9, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with Rev. Msgr. Francis J. Karwacki, Pastor as the celebrant. Interment with follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beaverdale. A viewing will be held on Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc.
