Elizabeth Mae “Betty” Chappell, 87 of Turkey Run, Shenandoah formerly of Barnesville passed away on Tuesday, morning, August 19, 2025 at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Shenandoah on February 20, 1938 she was the daughter of the late John and May (Clifford) Shustack and the late Charles H. Chappell.
She was a 1955 graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by General Motors in New Jersey.
Betty loved cats, they were truly her life. Every day, she was either rescuing them, feeding them or just enjoying watching them play. She cared for many of them throughout her life including numerous strays. Betty was also a generous benefactor to various feline organizations. She also had a “sweet tooth” having enjoyed her goodies. She also enjoyed listening to country music and was a big fan of Alan Jackson; she even attended a concert of his with her family.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her brother, Joseph E. Shustack on May 5, 2025; two sisters, Margaret Link and Sarah Johns and her longtime companion, Frank Russell.
Surviving are one brother, John Shustack of Mt. Carmel; one sister, Bernadine Miller of Gilberton; her sister-in-law, Barbara A. Shustack of Turkey Run, Shenandoah with whom she resided; and nephews and nieces with their families.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 S. Market St., Mt. Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz III, Supervisor and Christopher L.
