Evelyn Wozney, 97, of Kulpmont, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
Born on November 3, 1926 in Mount Carmel, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Margaret (Brundza) Savage and was extremely proud of her “100% Lithuanian” heritage. Evelyn attended Holy Cross School before graduating from Mount Carmel High School, Class of 1945. After marrying Joseph J. Wozney, she moved to Kulpmont, and worked as a seamstress in the garment industry.
A life member of the Kulpmont American Legion Auxiliary, chairing the Americanism committee for many years, she never missed voting in any election until her health waned. A devout Catholic, she was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Mount Carmel, where she enjoyed helping with the pierogie project and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Golden Angels at Holy Angels Parish in Kulpmont.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; sisters, Genevieve Aldrigetti and Margaret Mae Joraskie; brother, Ray (Herky) Savage and daughter-in-law, Karen Wozney.
She is survived by her son, Joseph of Mount Carmel; daughter, Alexis of Alexandria, VA; granddaughter, Jocelyn of New York, NY; nephew, Peter Paul Savage and his wife Karen of Scranton; beloved cousins, Agnes Revinski of New Brunswick, NJ and George Essip and his wife Pam of Mechanicsburg; and her loving dog Laz.
Evelyn was a modest woman who enjoyed simple pleasures. She was proud of her patriotism, her ethnic heritage and the long life she led, but mostly, her loving family.
