George G. Tomol

July 21, 1942 — January 21, 2026

Atlas, Pa.

George G. Tomol, 83, of 512 West Girard Street, Atlas, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Born at the former Shamokin State Hospital on July 21, 1942, he was the son of the late George and Julia (Andracchio) Tomol. He was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School.

On February 6, 1960, in the former St. Peter’s Church in Mt. Carmel, he married the former Mary (Miller) Tomol, who survives.

George was the owner and operator of the former George Tomol Auto Sales in Strong for many years before his retirement.

He was a constant and faithful presence in the lives of those he loved. Mary and George’s home was always open, a welcoming place where family and friends gathered to share a meal and enjoy one another’s company.

Whether greeting familiar faces as the Turkey Hill greeter or making his daily rounds to Dave’s, Kuzo’s, Turks, or Jeffrey’s garage, he was a beloved fixture in the community. He could always be found tinkering under the hood of a car or working on one of his many projects. He was also a collector of all things, leaving behind a task his family now undertakes with both love and laughter.

A devoted outdoorsman, he treasured sharing his passions for hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and four‑wheeling with his daughter Mary Kay and his grandsons—Kyle, Corey, and Jackie—creating memories that will be cherished for generations.

He never missed a single basketball game played by his granddaughters—Jena, Ali, and Jillian. He even made the two‑hour drive to Bucktail, proudly sitting as the lone Southern Columbia fan in the stands. One of his proudest moments was taking Michael to his hunting camp and teaching him to shoot his hunting rifle for the first time. Wednesday evenings were reserved for dinner at his daughter Donna’s home, a weekly tradition he treasured deeply. Summers brought special joy, filled with trips to Knoebel’s for ice cream and amusement park rides, or to McDonald’s for fries and playtime with Jena, Ali, Michael, and Jillian.

In earlier years, he loved camping with his wife and daughters and later with his daughter Karen, her husband Tom, and grandchildren Courtney and Nicholas. He often showed up at Karen’s campsite with the playful excuse that he “needed to fix the kids’ bikes,” though everyone knew he simply wanted to be there with them. He and Mary were always ready for a shopping trip to Sam’s Club with Karen and the kids, making even ordinary errands memorable.

He treasured every moment spent with his great‑grandchildren and always looked forward to family gatherings, where he could play with the kids and share in their laughter.

He is survived by his devoted wife; three daughters: Mary Kay O’Donnell of Mt. Carmel; Donna Oley and her fiancé, Joseph Stutz, of Elysburg; and Karen Castaldo and her husband, Thomas, of Hummelstown.

He leaves behind grandchildren Kyle Kent, Corey Kent, Jack O’Donnell, Jena Nestico, Ali Oley, Michael Oley, Jillian Leisenring, and Courtney and Nicholas Castaldo; as well as great‑grandchildren Lindsay, Kyle, and Aaron, Lucas and Sadie Kent; Juliana, Johanna, and Jiana Nestico; Kali, Kole, and Kaleb Snyder; Sutton Oley; and one great‑grandchild on the way.

Also surviving are two sisters, Julieann Conetta and her husband, Fred, of Kulpmont, and Mary Cortellini of Mt. Carmel; his goddaughter, Vicki Krah, who was his angel during his last days; his loyal dog, Snickers; and grandpup, Finn; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
