James E. Hancock

James E. Hancock, 78 of 121 East Cherry Street, Mt. Carmel passed away Friday, October 27, 2017 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born in Ashland on May 16, 1939 he was a son of the late George and Mary (Hughes) Hancock.

He was a 1957 graduate of the former Mount Carmel Catholic High School.

Mr. Hancock was a United States Army Veteran and was honorably discharged in 1964.

Prior to his retirement, he was a floor supervisor in various factories in the local garment industry as he was a master tailor.

James was a member of the Church of Our Lady and the Anthracite Steam Fire Company both of Mt. Carmel. He enjoyed gardening, sewing and crafts.

Surviving are one sister, Angela Chapman of Sunbury; one brother, Edward Hancock of Mt. Carmel; one sister-in-law, Trudy Hancock of Mt. Carmel; nieces, Diane Graff of Kulpmont and Tyffany Calabrese of Swoyersville; nephew, William “Bumpers” Chapman of Mt. Carmel; additional nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were two sisters, Mary Ellen “Queen” Williams and Kathy Powell; and three brothers, Jerry, John and William Hancock.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Church of Our Lady, Mt. Carmel. Rev. Francis J. Karwacki, Pastor will officiate. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. A viewing will be held on Thursday morning from 9:00 am until 10:45 am at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 S. Market St., Mt. Carmel.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the Mount Carmel Area Public Library, 30 South Oak Street, Mount Carmel, PA 17851.
