John J. Costello, 97, of Mt. Carmel passed away on Tuesday September 10, 2024 at the Mt. Carmel Senior Living Community.
Born on March 1, 1927 in Mt. Carmel, he was the son of the late Louis and Rosalia (Iannoni) Costello.
John was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School.
He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He received the Army Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
John had worked as a foreman for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation in Baltimore until his retirement.
He was a member of Divine Redeemer Church and the Veteran’s or Foreign Wars Post 2110 in Mt. Carmel.
Surviving are one sister, Antoinette Niglio of Mt. Carmel; two nephews, Joseph Chadwick and Russell Underkoffler; four nieces, Carol Niglio Altomare and her partner John Carr, Karen Chadwick Arnold and her husband Glenn, Carla Niglio Gabreski and her husband John and Lisa Underkoffler; great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel and Joseph Costello; two sisters, Rose Mary Chadwick and Lucy Underkoffler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 10:30 am in Divine Redeemer Church with the Rev. Bernard Wamayose, A.J., Pastor as the celebrant. A viewing will be held on Saturday morning from 9:00 am to 10:15 am at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market Street, Mt. Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz, III Supervisor. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Mt. Carmel Township. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy can be made to Mommy and Me Pet Rescue, 610 East Fifth Street, Mt. Carmel, PA 17851.
