John J. "Spearsy" Spears

John J. “Spearsy” Spears, 56, of Mount Carmel passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026 at the Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital.

Born at the former Shamokin State Hospital, Coal Township on February 13, 1970, he was the son of the late James J. Spears and Joann (Schrum) Spears who survives.

John was a 1988 graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School.

He was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation until his retirement.

John was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of the West End Athletic Club, Knights of Columbus Council #628 both of Mt. Carmel and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, Las Vegas Raiders, Notre Dame, and the Boston Celtics.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one daughter, Sydney Spears and her soon to be husband Chris Mandracchia of Conshohocken; one son, Seth Spears of Coal Township and their Mother Dina; one brother, Mike Spears and his wife Amy of Elkridge, MD; one sister, Patti Mazzatesta and her husband Tony of Kulpmont; nieces and nephews, Ella, Jack and Caroline Spears, and Maci and Talia Mazzatesta; brothers-in-law, Jed Karpinski and his wife Tammy, Fritz Sobol and Brian Sobol; sisters-in-law, Kerra Domboski and Ashley Karpinski; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a nephew, James P. Spears and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jerry and Anita Karpinski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 47 South Market Street, Mount Carmel with Rev. Msgr. Francis J. Karwacki as the celebrant. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 am until 11:00 am at the church.
