Joseph R. Shannon (1934-2025)

It is with broken hearts that we announce that our Uncle Joe Shannon of Locust Gap, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital, Coal Township.

Uncle Joe was the youngest of nine children (Albert, Dorothy, Michael, Celestine, John ”Dutchie”, Mary Theresa, Verna, and Louise) born to Albert and Verna (Doyle) Shannon. He was born March 9, 1934 and was 91 years young.

He married the love of his life, Rose, who preceded him in death in 1998.

Joe is survived by many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews that loved him dearly. Of course, we had to call him in advance to schedule time with him. He was a very busy man, known to play golf, take long walks, and work out at the gym regularly. He had many good and loyal friends that he cherished. He tried to look at the funny side of life and loved to spend time chatting with his friends over a Miller Lite. He shared his time with everyone, he even had some furry friends that showed up at his door for a meal. He never neglected anyone or anything that needed a helping hand. We loved our Uncle Joe!

A celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later date for his family and friends to share their stories and remember him with joy. Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 S. Market St., Mt.
