Joseph Francis “Pops” Toolen Jr., 67 of Mount Carmel passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025 in the comfort of his home surrounded by the warmth and love of his family.
Joseph was born on August 7, 1958 to Valkry (Schaeffer) Toolen and the late Joseph F. Toolen Sr. of Philadelphia.
He was a 1976 graduate of West Catholic High School, Philadelphia.
Joe (aka 189) was a proud, long-time employee of Walmart DC 7030. He will be fondly remembered for his hard work, tenacity, and one-of-a-kind sense of humor.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of forty-one years, the love of his life, Colleen (Shiffler) Toolen and children, Colleen (Joe) Mannahan, Katie (Josh) Shepherd, Joseph (Kim) Toolen III, Dennis (Mary) Toolen. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of his beloved grandchildren, Jason, Azlyn, Ryan, Haleigh, Aleena, Trevor, Aurora, Ally, Briella, Isaiah, Caleb, all who will carry on his legacy. Joe was also a caring big brother to Janet (Frank), Jimmy (Lisa), Maureen, Kathy (John) and a beloved uncle, cousin, nephew, and brother-in-law to many others.
In addition to his father, Joseph was preceded in death by his grandson, Jonathan Oliver Trice; and his two dear friends, Tommy “Focker” Shiffler and “Mac Daddy” Inacio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 11:00 am in Our of Lady of Mount Carmel Church with Very Rev. Msgr. Francis J. Karwacki, Pastor as the celebrant. A viewing will be held on Thursday morning from 9:00 am until 10:45 am at Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market Street, Mount Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz III Supervisor.
