Lewis C. "Babe" Snyder

June 16, 1942 — February 18, 2022

Lewis “Babe” Snyder, 79 of Kulpmont went home to be with the Lord peacefully on Friday, February 18, 2022 with his family by his side.

Babe was born on June 16, 1942 at the former Ashland State Hospital. He was the son of the late Clifford and Catherine (Strunk) Snyder.

He was a graduate of the Ashland Area Joint School.

Babe was a member of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard for six years.

Lewis worked at PP&L for thirty-six years retiring as a general foreman in 2002. Upon retiring, his wife Mary asked him if was going to make moonshine, he replies, “no, I am now going to enjoy retirement” and did just that.

Lewis was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish. He believed in the Catholic faith and loved to study the bible. When Father Frank would come to see him, he always read from the bible. They both would recite it without evening looking at it. Chapter John Pslam 23 was one of his favorite passages as was Mark IV, a prayer to cling to Jesus in the midst of anxiety, he sure did cling to Jesus with all he was going through.

Lewis loved to golf, every chance he had. He enjoyed being on the course with all of his buddies. Dad, stepdad, uncle and pappap, he loved his children and grandchildren, Little Lew, April, Christine, Claudia, Eliana, Patricia, Jason, Sue, and Zavier. Lewis always did everything with his family from going to band recitals, basketball games, baseball games, teaching them how to drive, teaching them family values, Sunday dinner together, watching football, you name it he did it. He was a wonderful man all around. No matter what time of the day if the kids ever called, he was always there to help out. He had a heart of gold. He helped his church and community in any way that he could. He often drove friends to the grocery store and to church meetings. Lewis was the light of the world to everyone that knew him. He left a smile on their face. Kindness was his middle name.

Surviving are his wife of twenty-eight years, the love of life Mary; two sons, Lewis Snyder, Jr. and his companion April, Jason Shutt and his wife Sue; two daughters, Christine Foster and Patricia Shutt; three grandchildren, Zavier Shutt, Claudia and Eliana Seidel; brother, Gary Snyder and his wife Sharol, Uncle, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Clifford H. Snyder.
