Mary Patricia (Parrell) Stroia passed away on Tuesday morning, December 9, 2025, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Hazleton, she was a daughter of Mary C. Parrell and the late Alfred M. Parrell.
Mary Pat was a graduate of Hazleton High School. She earned both a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Pittsburgh, where she was a proud member of Alpha Chi Omega. She was also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Mary Pat most recently served as Executive Vice President of Allegheny International Services ME. She previously held major leadership roles at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, including Vice President of Operations, as well as a senior leadership role in Business Development at Kindred Healthcare. Her work included overseas healthcare administrative and development efforts, including the creation of hospitals abroad.
Mary Pat served on several community non-profit boards and remained deeply engaged in the local civic and political arena. She was a proud member and supporter of the Hazleton Rotary, the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Hazleton Youth Soccer Association, and Marian Catholic High School. She also served on the board of the Pennsylvania Theatre of Performing Arts (PTPA) in Hazleton. In addition, Mary Pat was actively involved in the Hazleton Integration Project (HIP), reflecting her lifelong commitment to community, inclusion, and service.
An avid traveler and Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Mary Pat enjoyed music and red wine. Hosting holidays, parties, and gatherings was her specialty, and she took great delight in cooking for everyone. A fashion icon with impeccable style, she was a member of the pickleball league at Eagle Rock and enjoyed playing a round of golf. She loved warm weather, sunshine, and the beach. Mary Pat truly enjoyed helping people. Above all else, her family was of the greatest importance to her, especially her three children, her proudest accomplishments in life.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her spouse, Dr. Luciano Stroia; her three children, Dr. Alexandra Stroia (Carmen Cicioni), Claudia Stroia, and Lucca Stroia; her siblings D.J. Parrell, Kathleen O’Connor (Andy), Alfred Parrell (Annie), and Jennifer Parrell; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning, December 15, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Most Precious Blood Church, Hazleton. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Drums. A visitation will be held at the church prior to the Mass from 9:00–10:30 a.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made to HIP, either through their website (https://hip1.org/donate) or by mail to 225 E 4th Street, Hazleton, PA 18201, in support of a scholarship established in Mary Pat’s memory for students pursuing careers in healthcare and to honor her continued dedication to the community.
