Mildred "Millie" Callahan Mushalko

September 7, 1931 — November 6, 2023

Mount Carmel

Mildred “Millie” Callahan Mushalko, 92 of Mt. Carmel “Mam” as she was affectionately known passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, November 6, 2023.

Born in Mt. Carmel on September 7, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Bernice Czeslowski.

Millie graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1950 where she was voted the wittiest in her class.  She shared that humor with everyone she met.  She had a smile that lit up the room and a laugh that made the world laugh with her.  Mam’s jokes and unique sayings will be remembered forever.

On July 1, 1950, she married her next-door neighbor and the love of her life, Leonard “Lenny” Callahan.  They were blessed with two loving daughters, Anne Marie and Sis.  After her husband passed away, she married Andrew “Andy” Mushalko with whom she shared twelve years.

She enjoyed trips to the casinos with her sisters, Stella and Anna.  She was a life member of the Clover Hose Company, Mount Carmel.  She was co-chairperson of her class reunion committee.

Millie worked at various factories, the Mount Carmel Nursing Center, and was a janitress at the Mount Carmel High School where everyone loved her.  Years later after she retired, as she walked down Oak Street, kids would yell: “Hey Millie, thanks for all the lunch money you gave me”.   They never forgot her kindness.

She was the best cook and always said she added a little sugar and whole lot-a-love to everything that she made.

Her God and deep faith were a very important part of her life.  She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and attended daily Mass.  She would arrive so early that the priest gave her keys to the church.  When she was no longer physically able, she watched Mass and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy on EWTN and said countless rosaries.  Her prayer list was a mile long.

Mam loved her family with all of her heart because they meant the world to her – and they loved her right back!

She was an avid sports fan as she cheered on the MCA Tornadoes and Notre Dame football and Villanova basketball.  She would even wear her lucky socks during the games and critique Jay Wright’s designer suits.

Mam is survived by her two daughters, Millie “Sis” Collier of Mt. Carmel and Anne Marie Devine and husband Robert who loved her as a son of Elysburg; grandchildren, Bob Devine and wife Steffi of Harrisburg, Brian Devine and wife Meghan of Ardmore, Jackie Collier and husband Alex Gaillard of New York, Cassie Collier and husband Mark Lavelle of New York and Shawn Collier and significant other Ashley Yokum of Mount Carmel; her great-grandchildren, Jake, Brady, Casey, Jack and Declan Devine, Callahan “Callie” Lavelle Collier, and Parker, Noah, Livy Yokum; her sister, Anna Zelinski; many loving nieces and nephews, and a special friend Venita.

In addition to her parents and both husbands, Lenny and Andy, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank, John (“Blackie”), Chet (“Teddy) and Ray (“Chewy”) Czeslowski and her dear sister, Marie “Stella” Callahan.

You only get one mom and we got the best!
