Norman Runkle

Norman Runkle, 81 of Oak Ridge Estates, Mount Carmel Township, and formerly of Cresswell Gardens, Butler Township passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025 in his home.

Born in Frackville on December 13, 1943, he was the son of the late Sylvester and Elizabeth (Boyer) Runkle.

He was a 1961 graduate of the former Frackville High School.

Earlier in life, Norm was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Gilberton Coal Company and Reading Anthracite. He then started his own business and provided services with his own backhoe and dump truck until his retirement. He was also the former superintendent of the Christ Church Cemetery, Fountain Springs for twenty-seven years.

On November 11, 1967 in former Annunciation BVM Church, Frackville, he married the former Joanne Kretulskie who survives.

Norm was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Mount Carmel and was a former member of the Ashland Area Rotary Club and the Mahanoy Creek Watershed Association.

Surviving in addition to his wife of almost fifty-eight years, Joanne Runkle are his two sons, Mark Runkle and his wife Kelly of Lake Wynonah and Scott Runkle and his wife Melissa of Longview Terrace; his daughter, Jill Runkle of Ashland; granddaughter, Kyrsten Rodriguez and her husband Justin of Danville; and grandson, Ryan Runkle of Lake Wynonah.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend religious services on Thursday morning, October 23, 2025 at 11:00 am at the United Presbyterian Church, 100 East Fifth Street, Mount Carmel with the Rev. Joan A. Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery, Fountain Springs.
