Richard S. Chesney

Richard S. Chesney, 73, of 926 Pine Street, Kulpmont, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026 in his home.

Born on May 31, 1953 in Danville, he was the son of the late Harry and Dorothy H. (Seroskie) Chesney.

He was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School.

On July 20,1974, in Mt. Carmel he married Shirley (Wesner) Chesney who survives.

Prior to his retirement, Richard was employed as an X-ray technician for forty-seven years at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was co-founder and a co-owner of the Kulpmont Winery.

Richard was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed taking trips to Canada and Alaska with his son and close friends. He enjoyed watching his granddaughter play soccer and field hockey, much like he enjoyed watching his son when he was growing up.

He was a member and officer of the Kulpmont Sportsmen Association, member and officer of the Kulpmont 100 Inc., Anthracite Fire Company Mt. Carmel, Kulpmont American Legion Post 231 and the Kulpmont Knights of Columbus Council 4281. He volunteered countless hours to better the community that he grew up in and loved.

He was of the Catholic faith.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Richard J. Chesney and his wife Jennifer of North East, MD; his very special granddaughter, Hailey M. Chesney; nephews, Michael Bogush and his wife Kristie Strunk-Bogush, Stephen Bogush and his wife Maribeth.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Nicholas Bogush.

Religious services will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026 at 11:00 am with the Very Rev. Msgr. Francis J. Karwacki officiating at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market Street, Mt. Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz, III Supervisor. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Friday from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at the funeral home.
