Robert "Gary" Fitzpatrick

August 20, 1951 — January 9, 2019

Robert G. “Gary” Fitzpatrick, 67 of Elysburg passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born in Shamokin on August 20, 1951 he was a son of the late Edward and Violet (Zaborney) Fitzpatrick.

He was a 1969 graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Villanova University in 1973. He then attended and graduated from the Dickinson School of Law where he earned his Juris Doctorate.

Gary retired in October 2016 from Mariano Enterprises, Inc.

While growing up in Shamokin, he was active in sports having played baseball, football and basketball on school teams and for area youth leagues. As an adult, he excelled at golf and was a member, avid golfer and past club president at Indian Hills Golf Club. Gary was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Mt. Carmel and the Valley Gun and Country Club in Elysburg where he enjoyed socializing with friends.

He enjoyed talking about politics and history and also enjoyed cooking and walking with his dog Finn at the Weiser State Forest. Gary made friends easily and had a wonderful sense of humor. He kept a positive attitude despite life’s ups and downs. An Irish quote was among his personal effects after his passing that reads: “May those that love us, love us and those that don’t love us, may God turn their hearts. If He can’t turn their hearts, may He turn their ankles so we’ll know them by their limping.”

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents, Edward and Violet Fitzpatrick was his brother, Edward James Fitzpatrick.

Surviving are his children, Katherine Marie and Sean Michael both of Mt. Carmel and Erin Elizabeth of Elysburg; his long-time partner, Sue Hoffman of Elysburg; his sister, Carol Styer of Blue Bell; his granddaughter, Layla Grace Fitzpatrick; many cousins and his beloved dog, Finn who still waits by the gate for him to come home.
