Robert J. “Bob” Hamernick, 76 of 132 East Second Street, Mount Carmel passed away on Sunday evening, February 22, 2026 in his home after a long illness.
Born in Shamokin on April 4, 1949, he was a son of the late Robert and Agnes (Latovich) Hamernick.
Bob was a 1967 graduate of Mount Carmel High School, where he excelled as a football player, earning himself an athletic scholarship to C.W. Post, Long Island, NY, where he went on to earn his bachelor's degree.
Prior to his retirement, Bob had a long career in sales with Stanley Tools.
On April 22, 1972 in the former Our Mother of Consolation Church, Mount Carmel, he married the former Susan Melichercik who survives.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish. Bob was an avid Mount Carmel Red Tornadoes fan. Bob was known to many as the life of every gathering and a gifted storyteller. With his quick wit and well-crafted speeches and poems he could effortlessly command a room and leave it filled with laughter.
Surviving in addition to his wife of almost fifty-four years, Susan Hamernick are his daughter, Stacey Hamernick and her husband Caleb Altesleben of Chandler, Arizona; his son, Jason Hamernick and his wife Anna and their children, Bob’s grandchildren, Quinten, Emma, Abby, Sophia and Rory all of Gilbert, Arizona; brother-in-law, Joseph Melichercik; two sisters-in-law, Patty Hamernick and Mary Melichercik; and nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis and David Hamernick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with Very Rev. Msgr. Francis J. Karwacki, Pastor as the celebrant. A viewing will be held on Friday morning from 9:00 am until 10:45 am at Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market Street, Mount Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz III, Supervisor.
