Wayne W. Benfield, 81 of 631 Hillside Drive, Mount Carmel passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
Born in Danville on September 12, 1944, he was the son of the late William H. Benfield, Jr. and the late Margaret (Tighe) Benfield.
He was a 1962 graduate of the former Catholic High School in Mount Carmel.
Prior to his retirement, Wayne was employed as a lineman, tool room attendant and crane operator for PPL Electric Utilities.
On May 27, 1972, in the former Saint Ignatius Church, Centralia, he married the former Mary A. Lawrence who survives.
Wayne was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and was a former social member of the Centralia American Legion Post 608.
He enjoyed sporting events and was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles, Penn State and Notre Dame. He also loved dogs, especially those he had as pets throughout his life.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were two sisters, Sister Margaret Patricia Benfield, I.H.M. and Jane Benfield.
Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty-four years, Mary A. Benfield are his three children, Christopher Benfield and his wife Hilari of Mifflinburg, Mark Benfield and his wife Jessica of Schwenksville and Lindsey Slack and her husband Eric of Louisville, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Collin, Avery, Kristi, Parker and Harrison Benfield; and one great-granddaughter, Quinn Benfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 47 South Market Street, Mount Carmel with Very Rev. Msgr. Francis J. Karwacki, Pastor as the celebrant. Interment will follow in Saint Ignatius Cemetery, Centralia. There will be no visitation or services at the funeral home, everyone is invited to the church for the funeral mass. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 47 South Market Street, Mount Carmel, PA 17851. Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market Street, Mount Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz III, Supervisor has been entrusted with the arrangements.
