Obituary for Michael X. Bennett
Michael X. Bennett, 75, of Ecumenical Retirement Community, Harrisburg, died Saturday, December 12, 2020.
He was the son of the late Angus and Betty (Smithers) Bennett.
He was a graduate of Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary, Emmitsburg and was ordained a priest on May 22, 1971 in Saint Patrick Cathedral, Harrisburg by Bishop George L. Leech. During his priesthood his assignments include serving as Parochial Vicar of Saint Francis Xavier Parish, Gettysburg, Saint Patrick Parish, Carlisle, Saint Joseph Parish, Danville, Harrisburg Hospital Chaplain, Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, McSherrystown, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Lebanon, Holy Trinity Parish, Columbia, Corpus Christi Parish, Chambersburg and numerous parish retreats and missions in the United States and internationally.
He was in residence at the Priest Retirement Center, Harrisburg following his retirement. He is survived by one sister, Shannon M. Bennett of Harrisburg and two nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carole Elizabeth Bennett and Zyltha Elizabeth Bennett; one niece Amanda Ann Young. Services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Harrisburg. Arrangements are entrusted to the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market Street, Mt. Carmel, PA. Joseph J. Stutz, III Supervisor.
