Obituary for Mary Caruso
Mary Caruso, age 71 of 781 Fountain Street, Fountain Springs, Ashland passed away early Friday morning, September 16, 2016 at her home.

Born in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, New York on January 29, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Mary (Lamneck) Coulter.

She was a graduate of the Mary Louis Academy in Queens, NY.

Mary was a retired bookkeeper.

On April 15, 1963 in Henderson, North Carolina she married Leonard “Bill” Caruso who survives.

Mary’s greatest love was her grandchildren. She was married for 53 loving years and was an avid quilter, reader and gardener. Her greatest joy was watching her grandson and his teammates participate at various trapshooting tournaments.

As the oldest sister in a large family, Mary helped raise her younger siblings.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one daughter, Catherine Sawchak and her husband Michael of Waldorf, MD; one son, Bill Caruso and his wife Melissa Troutman-Caruso of Fountain Springs, Ashland; two grandchildren, Erin Sawchak and Domenic Caruso; nine brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her mother, Mary was preceded in death by one grandson, Eric Sawchuk; two sisters and three brothers.

Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, September 19, 2016 at 10:00 am in the Assumption of the Blessed Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, Centralia. Very Rev. Archpriest Michael Hutsko will officiate. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Frackville.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Sunday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Monday morning from 8:00 am to 9:45 am at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market St., Mt. Carmel.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy can be made to the Charles County Scholarship Fund, 2244 Sandalwood Drive, Waldorf, MD 20601.
